I-65 Situation: Not a sinkhole type scenario

One lane now open
Update to story: Travel alert: I-65 Northbound Hardin Co., KY

By Chris Jessie, Public Information Officer
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (Friday, 19 Sep 2014 at 6:31amCT) - One lane is open on I65 Northbound at Mile Point 97 in Hardin County just north of Elizabethtown, KY.

A break in pavement temporarily closed the interstate before 6amCT this morning.

KYTC engineers have determined the break in the center lane to be caused by a base failure. This is not a sinkhole type scenario.

Two lanes will remain closed (one will be open) as patching takes place.

With volume increasing through the day, northbound motorists should consider using the signed alternate route at exit 93 (Bluegrass Parkway) to rejoin the interstate at exit 105 (Lebanon Junction).

More details will be released as repairs are completed. - Chris Jessie
