ColumbiaMagazine.com special report

Duck Number 109, swimming for Joey Caldwell, was the winner of the 8th Annual Wacky Quacky Duck Race conducted by the Columbia/Adair County Parks & Recreation Board held at 10:30amCT, on Labor Day, September 1, 2014, at its now traditional race course at the bridge over Butler Branch near the intersection of Knifley Road and Pelly Lane.

With the victory, Caldwell was awarded the top prize, $300 cash.

Second place went to Duck No. 117, raced by Darrell Overstreet, who won $100.

Third place was captured by Duck No. 158 swimming for Trilby Vance, who received $50.

Approximately 195-200 ducks were sold, down sharply from 402 sold in 2013, and 370 sold in 2012.

However, prize costs were down, too. Debbie Yates, a Parks & Recreation Board Member, said the 2014 Wacky Quacky Duck race netted some $355 for the parks board.
