Dr. Robert Simmons, Green County, KY (1931-2014)

He was a beloved doctor for 41 years serving patients Green and surrounding counties. He was also a Korean War Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a native of Cumberland County, KY, and a resident of Green County at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Joe Simmons and Eliza Phelps. His wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Durham Simmons, survives. He was the patriarch of a distinguished South Central Kentucky family. He leaves 10 direct living descendants.

Dr. Robert Proctor Simmons, age 83, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, KY.

The funeral services for Dr. Robert Simmons will be conducted at 10amCT, Friday, August 22 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Campbellsville, KY. Visitation is requested 5pm-8pmCT, Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Friday until time of the funeral service.


Dr. Robert Simmons, 83, Green County, KY (1931-2014)

He was the son of the late Simpson Joe Simmons and Eliza Phelps Simmons, was born on January 20, 1931 in Cumberland County, and departed this life on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Hardin County,Kentucky. He was 83 years and 7 months of age.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Ann Durham Simmons, having united in marriage on May 29, 1952. and the following:
  • Three sons and three daughter-n-laws: Dr. Robert L. and Denise Simmons of Campbellsville, KY; Dr. Alan and Christine Simmons of Nashville, TN; and Morris and Laura Simmons of Greensburg, KY

  • Five grandchildren: Austin Hays of Glasgow, KY; Joey Simmons of Nashville, TN; Adam Simmons of Greensburg, KY; Landon Simmons and Jonathan Simmons of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two great grandchildren: Gavin Hays of Glasgow, KY, and Carter Simmons of Nashville.

    Dr. Simmons was also preceded in death by one sister: Margie McClintock; two brothers: Homer Simmons and Austin Simmons.

    The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Green County Public Library which can be made at the funeral home.
