LWC Men's Soccer No. 3 in NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll Blue Raiders ranked in top 25 poll for 84th consecutive week By Charles Balcom COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson men's soccer opens its 2014 campaign as the third-ranked team in the NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. The Blue Raiders claimed 549 voting points to trail only defending national champion Martin Methodist (TN) with 589 points and No. 2 Auburn Montgomery (AL) with 566. Martin Methodist claimed 19-of-21 first-place votes, with No. 4 Ashford (Iowa) and No. 12 Grand View (Iowa) each with a first-place vote. The No. 3 preseason mark extends Lindsey Wilson's streak of consecutive national rankings to 84 straight weekly polls, going as far back as the 2007 preseason rankings on August 15, 2007. The Blue Raiders concluded their 2013 season in the semifinals of the NAIA National Championship, finishing the season with a 17-4-2 record. Lindsey Wilson also captured the regular-season Mid-South Conference title last season. Lindsey Wilson squares off against seven teams either ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll, including No. 4 Ashford, No. 7 Rio Grande (Ohio) and No. 8 Baker (KS). The national poll is voted on by a panel of head coaches representing either a conference, the independents or an unaffiliated group. The first regular-season poll is scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, September 23, 2014. - Charles Balcom This story was posted on 2014-08-20 01:49:26
