Assault victim flown to UL with multiple facial fractures Arrest made in incident which occurred in the 900 block of Russell Road, Columbia, KY. Suspect lodged in Adair County Regional Jail; investigation ongoing by CPD Officer Charles Greer Click on headline for complete story By Ofc. Josh Brockman Columbia Police Department, Chief, Jason Cross Columbia Police Department investigated an assault resulting in a Taylor County man being airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment and a second man being taken into custody facing charges of assault 2nd degree with serious physical injury and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail. The incident occurred at approximately 7:57am Friday morning, August 15, 2014. Columbia Police Department officers responded to the 900 block of Russell Road in reference to an assault. Upon arrival officers came into contact with 37 year old Ronnie Vanheck and immediately saw that he was in need of medical attention for injuries he had sustained. Adair County EMS treated and transported Vanheck to Westlake Regional Hospital. A short time later he was flown by Air Evac to the University of Louisville for multiple fractures to the face. After investigating the incident further a suspect was identified and 44 year old Steve Handy was taken into custody at 1:24pmCT that day. Handy was charged with assault 2nd degree with serious physical injury and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail by Ofc. Charles Greer, who is continuing the investigation. - OFC.
