Glendale, KY, firefighter dies in line of duty; another airlifted

Twenty five year old Jonathan E. French struck by tractor trailer while fighting vehicle fire in southbound lane of I-65 near Glendale, KY, and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin County Coroner. Another firefighter airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. Accident is under investigation by KSP accident constructionist Trooper Bryan Washer

KY State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY

GLENDALE, KY - The Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown, KY, responded to a fatality accident this morning on Southbound I-65 at the 87 mile marker.

The Glendale Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at the same location at approximately 2:54amCT involving a van that was fully engulfed on the right shoulder of the Interstate.



At approximately 3:28amET KSP Post 4 received a call of an accident involving a tractor trailer and a fire truck.

Glendale Fireman Jonathan E. French (25), of Glendale, KY, was struck by a tractor trailer driven by John M. Hatton (44) of Covington, KY, while attempting to extinguish the initial vehicle fire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin Co. Coroner. Firefighter Lisa A. French (43), of Eastview, KY, was also struck and suffered serious injuries. She was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital.

The operator of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The accident is currently under investigation by KSP accident reconstructionist Trooper Bryan Washer.

KSP is being assisted at the scene by the Central Hardin Fire Department, The Elizabethtown Fire Department, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Hardin County EMS, and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.
