John Ford: Offers own solution to problem of high gas prices

Says consumer boycott wouldn't work, but Walmart would be a competitive factor if they were to sell gas at their Columbia store
Comments re article 68864 Ed Pipalski Gives his opinion of Somerset city gas sales

John Ford writes:
I'm sorry Mr Pipalski but I can't agree with your assessment of the situation. These companies have more than enough money to sustain themselves, the pressure you can bring by a boycott of their brand will mean nothing to them. A better solution to this problem is to have city and county government go to Walmart and beg them to sell gas here . . .offer whatever it will take to make it a reality. I don't know what happened at the planning and zoning board meeting when Walmart was denied the gas concessions for Adair county, but whatever it was the citizens of this county were the real losers. Maybe ColumbiaMagazine can dig into this meeting and post it here so we can see for ourselves what happened. - John Ford
Thanks John Ford: We'll look into it - but I think the decision not to sell gas was a made by private individuals. I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure it had nothing to do with Planning & Zoning. - ED WAGGENER
