The market is featured at Bon Appetit Appalachia/Farmers Market on the Square, Columbia, KY "Bon Appetit Appalachia" is a culinary tourism initiative of the Appalachian Regional Commission’s Tourism Advisory Council and the Kentucky Department of Travel & Tourism. The BAA was created to generate new visitation throughout Appalachia by highlighting regional and local cultural and culinary destinations. ARC's Tourism Advisory Council along with the BAA project design partner reviewed hundreds of nominations to determine Appalachia’s most distinctive local food destinations. Over 280 sites were selected to be highlighted on the interactive map, and in addition to those, another 300 or so sites are showcased on a companion website. All destinations selected or highlighted for this project were required to be located in the Appalachian Region, accept visitors and significantly involve local food. Sites featured include local farms, farmer's markets, farm to table restaurants, wineries, craft breweries and other culinary destinations. The mapguide is available on line at "Bon Appetit Appalachia" with a interactive feature that offers an expanded list of the more than 650 best Appalachian food destinations across 13 states. The map guide publication will be distributed to tourism centers throughout the Appalachian region. The Kentucky Department of Travel & Tourism is planning an event to celebrate Kentucky’s BAA sites in September 2014. Representatives from all 48 BAA sites in Kentucky including the Farmer's Market on the Square have been invited to Berea to attend the event. Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, as the event sponsor, will also attend.
