16 LWC athletic programs named 2013-14 NAIA scholar teams

COLUMBIA, KY - Sixteen Lindsey Wilson College athletic programs earned national recognition on Tuesday as National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics officials announced the 2013-14 NAIA Scholar Teams.



For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade-point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.

The 16 NAIA Scholar Teams are the most in Lindsey Wilson history.

The women's soccer team led the way for the Blue Raiders compiling a 3.58 GPA for the 2013-14 academic year. It marks the third-consecutive season the women's soccer program has held the highest team GPA at Lindsey Wilson.

Following the women's soccer program is the women's tennis team with a 3.53 GPA and the volleyball program with a 3.51 GPA.

Other Lindsey Wilson NAIA Scholar Teams include women's swimming (3.44), men's tennis (3.43), softball (3.41), men's soccer (3.35), women's indoor track and field (3.34), women's outdoor track and field (3.34), women's basketball (3.19), men's swimming (3.16), men's golf (3.13), men's indoor track and field (3.11), women's cross country (3.08), women's golf (3.08) and men's outdoor track and field (3.05).

Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) produced the most teams with 19 while the Ashford (Iowa) men's golf team is the NAIA Scholar-Team of the Year with a 3.86 GPA.

Lindsey Wilson led the Mid-South Conference with 16 followed by Cumberland (Tenn.) with 12 teams followed by St. Catharine (KY) (10), Campbellsville (KY) (8), Pikeville (KY) (6) and Cumberlands (KY) (2). - Charles Balcom
