She was a member of a highly regarded West Adair County, KY family, the daughter of the late Hazel Gladys Montgomery Blades. She leaves six direct living descendants. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Rachel Blades Handy, 78, of Columbia, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11:14amCT, at the Westlake Regional Hospital, Columbia, KY.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Tony Franklin officiating. Burial in the Union Cemetery, 174 Milltown Church Road, Columbia, KY. Visitation will be after 5pmCT, Thursday, July 10, 2014.



Casket bearers: Alex Lawson, Daniel Lawson, Ethan South, Amanda McCloud, Doyle Burton, and Phyllis McHam.

Honorary casket bearers: Judy Urban, Wilma Landis, Derek Ritter, and Patti McClister.

Rachel Blades Handy, Adair Co., KY (1935-2014)

She was born October 3, 1935 in Adair County, KY. She was the daughter of the late Hazel and Gladys Montgomery Blades. She died died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Columbia, Adair County, KY at the age of 78 years, nine months, and five days.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Robert and Billy Joe Blades, Geneva Adkins & Virginia Black.

She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a homemaker. Survivors include:
  • Three children: Cindy Lawson (Roger) of Campbellsville, KY; and Lisa Handy (Amanda McCloud) of Columbia, KY; and Ricky Handy of Columbia, KY

  • Three grandchildren: Daniel and Alex Lawson, and Landon Lee

  • Several other relatives and friends
