Mrs. Zelma Davis Higginbotham, age 89, of Louisville, Kentucky, formerly of the Smith Grove Community in Cumberland County, Kentucky and of Albany, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Wesley Manor Health Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Funeral dervices will be conducted on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 1pmCT/2pmET, ) in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Bro. Gary Cash and Bro. Steve Carney officiating. Burial will be in the Smith Grove Cemetery in Cumberland County, Kentucky. The family will receive friends after 12pm noon CT/1pmET on Thursday, June 19, 2014 until the funeral hour on Friday.

She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Wednesday, December 17, 1924, the daughter of William "Bill" and Zola Johnson Davis. She died Monday, June 16, 2014, in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY, at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 30 days.

She was a technician for Payton's of Louisville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Conrad Higginbotham; her son,, Benny James Higginbotham; her brothers, Cordis Davis and Kenny Davis; her sisters, Bertie Scott and Billie Myers; three infant sisters and her brothers-in-law, Floyd Clark and Orville Earl Scott.

She is survived by the following:
  • Her daughter and son-in-law, Ronda and Gary Norris of Louisville, Kentucky

  • Her sister: Betty Clark of Byrdstown, Tennessee

  • Her sisters and brothers-in-law: Eloise and Lyle Stalcup of Burkesville, Kentucky; and Patsy and Roy "Cubby" Melton of Louisville, Kentucky

  • Her grandchildren: Ronald Edward and Karen Norris of Burkesville, Kentucky and James Allen Norris of West Point, Kentucky

  • Her great-grandchildren, Briana Norris, Brittany Norris, Stephanie Norris and Lauren Norris
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to The Smith Grove United Methodist Church, 4018 Smith Grove Road, Burkesville, Kentucky 42717 or to The Meadow Hill Baptist Church, 5513 Minor Lane, Louisville, Kentucky 40219.
