Norway awards medal to Adair WWII Veteran Simpson Reliford Adair County native receives Norwegian WWII Defense Medal or Deltagermedaljen on 70th anniversary of D-Day. See also: Defence Medal (1940-1945) entry in Wikipedia By Chris Wilson On June 6, 2014, Adair County native Simpson Reliford was honored with an award from the Norwegian government for his efforts in helping their country during World War II. The award was presented by three officers from the NATO Alled Command Tranformation (ACT), VA which sent three officers, one each from of the Norwegian Army, Navy and Air Force to present the medal: Captain Yngve Skoglund, Norwegian Navy; Lt. Colonel Tom Schroder, and Norwegian Army Sergeant Therese Skalbones, Norwegian Air Force Simpson was a member of the 99th Battalion. His was the last of the 23 awards which have been presented to members of that battalion. This day was also special because it commemorated the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
