BOWLING GREEN, KY - Campbellsville University bass fishing coach Tommy Hall signed Austin Moore of Warren East High School on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, as the program's first incoming freshman for the 2014-15 inaugural season.

"Austin is not only a proven competitive angler but also a fine example of academic excellence. I look forward to working with Austin, and I know he will be instrumental in taking CU fishing to the top," said Hall.

This will be the second time in the last four years Moore has helped start a bass fishing program from scratch.

"It's really exciting," Moore told the Bowling Green Daily News. "The sport is growing. Hopefully I'll be able to fish pretty well there and be able to grow that program just like this one."

As a sophomore in 2011-12, Moore and teammate Zack Sowders led Warren East's inaugural team by placing eighth at the Student Angler Federation Kentucky High School Fishing State Championships on Kentucky Lake.

He has placed in the top five at several tournaments during his three years, including winning the 2013 Beshear Invitational on Muhlenburg County Lake and placing fourth both in 2013 and 2014 in the Froggyland Classic on Kentucky Lake.

Sporting Times honored Moore in May with the South Central Outstanding Regional Excellence in Sports Bass Fishing Award.

Moore is the son of Jerry and Jennifer Moore.

Campbellsville's co-ed bass fishing team will be the university's 26th sports team when competition begins in the fall of 2014. CU is the first university in Kentucky to offer athletic department scholarships for collegiate bass fishing. - Chris Megginson
