COLUMBUS, GA - For the first time all season, the seventh-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team was shut out in a 3-0 loss to second-seeded Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) Saturday afternoon at the 2014 NAIA Softball World Series at South Commons Softball Complex, 400 4th Street, Columbus, GA.

A three-run home run by Auburn Montgomery's Katie Spain in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference maker in a game where the Blue Raiders managed just three hits.

After Lindsey Wilson (49-10) went 1-2-3 to start the game, the WarHawks (41-6) made some noise in the bottom of the first.

An error allowed a runner to reach first and Spain hit a deep fly ball to left-center field. Travatia Bowden had trouble tracking the ball and it eventually skipped out of her glove. She recovered it quickly and threw in to Madison Scott who relayed it to third where Abbi Goedde tagged out the AUM runner attempting to advance. With a runner still on second base, Jordan Hood was able to strikeout Lauren Shaw to end the inning.

The Blue Raiders got their first hit of the day in the top of the second when Bailey Mize hit a ball that bounced over the third basemen's head. Two batters later Bowden singled to put runners on first and second, but Hood struck out to end the inning. The WarHawks threatened in the bottom of the third when a pair of singles put runners on first and third, but the next batter lined out to Scott at shortstop to hold the scoreless tie.

In the top of the fourth, Mize reached on a two-out walk and Goedde singled before a pop out ended the inning. It would be the last base runners of the day for Lindsey Wilson.

After two quick outs to start the bottom of the fourth, back-to-back singles and a Blue Raider error loaded the bases for AUM. But Hood rose to the occasion like she has done so many times this season and struck out the next batter to end the threat.

In the bottom of the fifth, AUM was finally able to get to Hood. A pair of bunt singles put runners on first and second and Spain cleared the bases with her blast over the right-field fence to take a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders were retired in order in both the six and seventh innings to end the game at 3-0.

Cassie Daniels (18-4) picked up the win throwing a complete-game shutout allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts.

Hood (25-3) took the loss allowing three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts in four innings of work.

The powerful Blue Raider offense has struggled lately managing just one run on four hits in two games at the NAIA World Series. The shutout loss is the first of the season for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders were last shut out on March 10, 2013 in a 1-0 loss to Auburn Montgomery.
