RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team split a doubleheader with Rio Grande (Ohio) on Monday afternoon at the Stanley L. Evans Memorial Athletic Complex. The Blue Raiders fell in game one 2-1 before bouncing back with a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

Game one was a pitcher's duel from the start as Lindsey Wilson's (38-6, 24-4 MSC) Casey Bryan and Rio Grande's (27-14, 19-11 MSC) Jenna Jones were both dealing from the circle.

Of the first nine outs Bryan recorded, eight of them were by way of strikeout. Jones also saw success early as she retired nine of the first 12 batters she faced through three innings.

The scoring for both teams came in the fourth inning as Amanda Trampe led off with a single and later scored on a one-out double by Abbi Goedde. Goedde was left stranded at second as the next two batters lined out and struck out to limit the Blue Raider lead to 1-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, Mattie Lanham reached on a one-out walk and scored on a double by Kari Jenkins to tie the game 1-1. The next RedStorm batter delivered a single to left-center to score Jenkins and give Rio Grande the 2-1 lead.

Rio Grande attempted to extend their lead in the bottom of the fifth after a single, walk, and sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one out, but Bryan struck out the next two batters to limit the lead to one.

Lindsey Wilson's final chance came in the top of the seventh after Travatia Bowden walked to begin the inning. Back-to-back groundouts allowed Bowden to advance to third as Andrea Whelan stepped to the plate. After fighting off four foul balls, Whelan finally popped out to second base to end the game 2-1.

Trampe finished 2-for-3 in the game while Kristina Krupinksi, Bowden and Goedde all recorded one hit, Goedde with an RBI.

Bryan (18-3) suffered the loss despite recording a career-high 12 strikeouts in her 15th complete game of the year. It marks the fourth time this season Bryan has hit double-digit strikeouts. The freshman allowed two runs on three hits, but walked a career-high four batters. She had previously not allowed more than two walks in a game.

Jones (16-9) picked up the win allowing just one run on five hits in her 20th complete game of the season.

Game two saw another strong pitching performance from Jordan Hood as she began the game by retiring 12 straight batters. Her perfect game was finally broken up in the top of the fifth after issuing a walk.

Hood helped herself at the plate in the top of the second by hitting a solo home run to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson put runners on first and second in the fourth inning after a single by Hood and Brittney Graves reached on an error. Back-to-back two-out singles by Madison Scott and Krupinski scored two runs to extend the Blue Raider lead to 3-0.

In the top of the fifth, a pair of singles by Hood and Graves allowed Bowden to score after previously reaching on a walk to make it 4-0. - Charles Balcom The RedStorm were finally able to get to Hood in the bottom of the fifth after Jones led off with a walk to break up the perfect game. Lanham followed with a single to break up the no hitter and Alex Kuhn singled to score Jones and cut the lead to 4-1 with runners on first and third with only one out. But Hood settled down and struck out the next two batters to end the threat. The Blue Raiders added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh after Bailey Mize led off with a single and scored on a double by Goedde. Ashley Hughes, pinch-running for Goedde, advanced to third on a pair of groundouts and later scored on a RedStorm error for the 6-1 lead. Hood continued her dominance in the bottom half of the inning going 1-2-3 to close out the game. Scott led the way at the plate going 4-for-5 with an RBI. Hood went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice. Krupinski, Graves and Goedde all added an RBI. Hood (16-2) pitched her 11th complete game of the season allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 12 and walking one. It marks the fourth time this season Hood has recorded double-digit strikeouts and 14th time in her career. Tiffany Bise (11-4) took the loss after giving up one run on four hits in just two innings of work. - Charles Balcom, Lindsey Wilson College
