LWC Baseball falls at St. Catharine on walk-off single 3-2 The Blue Raiders led 2-1 entering the bottom of the ninth before giving up the two runs ST. CATHARINE, KY - The Lindsey Wilson baseball team suffered a 3-2 walk-off loss at the hands of St. Catharine (KY) College on Saturday afternoon at Edelen-Haydon Field. Lindsey Wilson (22-21, 9-9 MSC) led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth before the Patriots (20-19, 11-8 MSC) scored two runs with two outs on a walk and back-to-back singles to steal the win from the Blue Raiders 3-2. Lindsey Wilson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-out RBI single by Mitchell Osnowitz. Osnowitz later scored on a single by Jeandro Andino. The Patriots cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third after a leadoff single followed by a triple plated one run. St. Catharine would leave the runner stranded at third after the next two batters popped out and grounded out to end the inning. St. Catharine threatened in the bottom of the fifth after a pair of base hits put runners on first and third with one out, but again the Patriots were unable to capitalize as the next two batters were retired to end the threat. The next three innings went quietly until the bottom of the ninth when St. Catharine used two walks and two singles to score twice for the comeback win. Starting pitcher England Smith put together a quality game going eight and one-third innings giving up one run while scattering nine hits with five strikeouts en route to the no decision. Sam Ross (2-6) took the loss after entering in the ninth with one out and giving up the final two runs. St. Catharine's Trenton Claunch (3-5) came away with the win after pitching two hitless innings in the eighth and ninth. Patriots' starter John Werner went seven innings giving up two runs - one earned - while scattering six hits and striking out 10. Lindsey Wilson was outhit 11-6 for the game and left eight base runners on while committing three errors. - Charles Balcom, Lindsey Wilson College This story was posted on 2014-04-13 06:05:47
