Bam Carney's visits ACMS, sees stamp project Click on headline for complete story with photo(s) By Shamarie Claiborne, Media Publicity Coordinator Adair County School District, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY On February 14th many of you may remember that State Representative "Bam" Carney came down to see a display of Adair County Middle School 6th graders Kentucky Stamp Project. At the time Representative Carney invited the winners to come to Frankfort and show off their work and promised them he would introduce a resolution to make one of the stamps the "unofficial" Kentucky State Stamp. Keeping to his words on March 13, all the winners and their stamps traveled to Frankfort and the students had a blast! The students who were invited and attended were Ty Cheatham, Walter Baker, Devon Karnes, Elizabeth Bair, Emma Grider, Caylee Hardin, Noah Abrell, Dominic Sanford, Jacoby Abrell, Madelyn Harmon, Mackenzie Coomer, Hannah Brown, David Adams, Jacob Morrison, Riley Rogers, Dana Greer, Natalie Curry, Shelby Jones, Michael Hancock, Jakobe Payne, Gavin Bloyd, Lauren Grant, Kaylee Robinson, Macy Brown, Jonathan Wood, and Jeanene Pike. Their day started with a guided tour of the capital. They then enjoyed a lunch at the Annex Cafeteria after which they were treated to House Gallery Passes. During the day the public voted on the stamp they thought best represented the State of Kentucky and Madelyn Harmon's stamp in now the "unofficial" Kentucky State Stamp. All the students were honored and received recognition during the session and got to have their picture taken on the House floor. Madelyn Harmon was brought up and recognized she also had her picture taken with Representative Carney and The Speaker of the House Gregory Stumbo. The creator of the assignment Mr. Glen Ashbrook escorted the students to Frankfort along with co-teacher Sherry Cook, and ACMS Principal Alma Rich. They were all very proud of the way the students handled themselves. And had nothing but praise for Representative Carney's attention to detail for the day and the students experience. It was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. - Shamarie Claiborne. This story was posted on 2014-03-25 02:45:03
