Columbian faces multiple charges after crash, fleeing scene

Columbia man arrested on multiple charges after a two vehicle traffic collision on Russell Road. Search of housing project, on tips of witnesses finds suspect matching description running across several yards on Carrie Bolin Drive, who flees officers who apprehend him after short pursuit.

Columbia Police Officers were dispatched, att 9:04pmCT, on March 14, 2014, to a motor vehicle collision on Russell Road. Upon officers' arrival it was found that a 1996 blue Toyota Tacoma had struck a white 2004 F-250 operated by Mickey Wheeler of Columbia, KY.

Several witness's advised officers that the operator of the blue Tacoma had exited the truck and fled on foot toward Carrie Bolin Drive and gave officers a detailed description of the operator.



CPD Ofc. Josh Brockman observed a male subject matching that description running across several yards on Carrie Bolin drive toward Jamestown street. The suspect was given commands to stop but continued to flee.

After a short pursuit the suspect was apprehended by Ofc. Brockman and identified as 34 year old Jason Wethington of Columbia, the registered owner of the blue Tacoma.

Wethington was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol Aggravating Circumstances, Leaving The Scene of a Accident, Fleeing or Evading Police 2nd Degree, Wanton Endangerment 2nd degree, Reckless Driving, and Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle Prohibited.

CPD Ofc. Drew Conn and Adair County Deputy's Justin Cross and Jared Conover assisted.
