ACHS Academic Team wins, qualifies for state ACHS Academic Team successful again at Region Championships. Future Problem Solving team will 10 year streak of State Championship appearances. Click on headline for story with photo By Shamarie Claiborne News from the Adair County School District Adair County High School Academic Team continued its tradition of winning excellence on February 15 at South Warren High School in Bowling Green during the 4th Region Championships. The Future Problem Solving team earned 1st Place honors once again and advanced to State Finals for the 10th year in a row. The win also continued Adair's streak of ten straight years in which the school has earned a team championship at the Regional level. This also continues Adair's record of being one of only two schools in Kentucky to hold a 10-year streak of State Finals appearances. ACHS Junior Brittany Curry followed up a 1st Place finish at District in Mathematics and captured an individual berth to compete at State Finals as an individual. She was 5th Place in the Math competition. Adair County continued its string of impressive Language Arts finishes by sending two competitors to State Finals. Treyton Grant, a first year individual competitor, finished in 2nd Place at Region while teammate Rebecca Montgomery finished 3rd. This is the youngest pairing of Language Arts competitors that have qualified for State for Adair County, as both are only Sophomores. Grant and Montgomery's top five finishes also continue a dominant streak of ten State Finals appearances in a row for the Adair County High School team in the Language Arts event. Adair has finished 1st or 2nd in the subject every year but one during that streak. Joining teammates in individual competition will be Rebekah York, who finished 5th in English Composition. This year was York's first competitive appearance for the Academic Team and first qualification for State Finals. In what has been widely considered one of the most competitive 4th Region Academic Tournaments to date, Coach Brett Reliford stated that managing to send four individuals and represent the school so well in team competitions was a reason to be proud. "No other team in this Region has improved in such a short amount of time as the group we have in the Adair County Academic Team this year. In fact, he said "I would contend that no other program in the State gained as much ground in a short amount of time as we have this season. We have a reputation for success but this particular year we knew was going to be a climb. Our kids knew that and surpassed all expectations. I think a lot of schools were blown away by the adjustments we made throughout the year and how we pulled it together in the end." Future Problem Solving members taking home the Regional Championship were Kyle Castaneda, Amber Turner, Sarah McQuaide, and Jessi Taylor. Members of the Quick Recall and Written Assessment team include Timothy Watson, Brittany Curry, Rebecca Montgomery, Zane Sanders, Jessi Taylor, Alan Godsey, Austin Bradshaw, Treyton Grant, and Courtney Green . Kyle Castaneda, FPS member, is the lone Senior on the team. Governor's Cup State Finals are held in Louisville at the Galt House Hotel on March 15-17. This story was posted on 2014-02-20 15:42:20
