Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com The Adair County Indians rallied from from an 8 point second half deficit and came away with a 52-48 victory over Whitefield Academy last night in Louisville. The Tribe pulled out the win despite not having the services of Chance Melton who was out with an ankle injury. The Indians fell behind 7-0 less than a minute in to the game and trailed 17-13 after one period. Sophomore forward Jacob Pooler helped the Indians stay close scoring 9 first half points as the Indians trailed 30-26 at intermission. Junior shooting guard Zach Hutchison scored five 3rd quarter points but the Indians still trailed 40-35 after 3 periods. In the final period seniors Matt Fudge and Ty Bennett took over the scoring load for the Indians. Fudge scored 9 of his team high 17 points, while Bennett connected on 2 treys for 6 of his 15 points as the Indians rallied. Trailing 48-47 with 1:00 remaining Matt Fudge connected on a three from the corner to give the Tribe a 50-48 advantage. The Indians then rebounded a missed Whitefield free throw. Fudge stepped to the charity stripe with 12 seconds remaining and calmly sank both ends of a bonus to give the Indians the final 52-48 margin. Fudge, Bennett, and Pooler were in double figures with 17, 15, and 11. Hutchison scored 6 and Marshall Shelley 3. The Indians had a group rebounding effort in Melton's absence. Senior forwards Jake Hixson and Ty Bennett led the way with 7 each. Shelley had 6, Pooler 5, and Hutchison 4 rebounds respectively. This story was posted on 2014-02-02 04:28:19
