Lois Cunningham sends advice for Rep. Ed Whitfield Comments re article 64953 2014 pool level at Lake Cumberland won't be back to normal By Lois Cunningham Personal Commentary I am just wondering, what part of the article sent by the Corps of Engineers and the Fish and Wildlife Commission did Mr. Whitfield not understand. (Whitfield makes statement on Lake Cumberland water levels) The hold up on returning the dam to original levels has nothing to do with the Obama Administration. There was found that an endangered species was found while the water levels were low, and the endangered species act states they have to investigate the best way to handle the conservation of dusky tail darter, to insure their survival. When the assurances were made by the Corps to bring the levels back up to original levels they had no idea they were going to encounter an endangered species. They will investigate the best way to assure the survival of the dusky tail darter, and the level of the lake. They did not say this was not going to happen, they just said it would take longer to achieve it. Nothing is ever what it seems in the beginning of a project. How many of us have started something and have it turn out exactly as it should and in the time frame you thought it would take. I am sure Mr Whitfield gets complaints about the project, but instead of blaming the hold up on political opponents in a year of elections, just refer them to the very informative and logical letter from the Corp of Engineers and Fish and Wild Life commission --lois cunningham This story was posted on 2014-01-31 07:01:56
