Jarrett Miller: We have to do better as a community

This community has become nothing more than a place to sleep, and anytime someone says "We have to do better" they are instantly the enemy. - JARRETT MILLER

Personal commentary

Once again I find myself attacked. That is their opinion, however; remember that unless the people of this community accept change, keep up with the modern world, expand their worldview and accept other values and opinions, this community will get more of the same. No jobs, no stores, no entertainment and theaters, no higher culture. The children will continue to leave as quickly as they turn 18. Columbia will become nothing more than a community for retirees. Even those coming to this area "from off" are predominately retired or near retirement. The community will not continue long with this as its pattern.

You don't have to look hard to see this already happening. The majority of people in this county travel to Campbellsville, Glasgow, Somerset, Russell Springs or elsewhere to work. When people go shopping, how many drive over to the mall at Bowling Green? This community has become nothing more than a place to sleep, and anytime someone says "We have to do better" they are instantly the enemy.

As far as the comment regarding the number of hours required to clear the roads being based on trucks and personnel. Ask those state employees why they hang out in town (many times at Walmart) when they have roads to clear. They do not put their full effort into the task. They have become as complacent as everyone else in this community. --Jarrett Miller
