Arrest made in Sunday afternoon shooting in Monroe County, KY

Two Scottsville residents wounded in shooting. 58 year old Austin, KY man arrested. Detective Jamie Richard is investigating.

Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY

TOMPKINSVILLE, KY - 58-year-old Ricky Wyatt of Austin, KY, has been arrested and charged with Assault 1st Degree in connection with the shootings of 34-year-old Christopher Burgess and 49-year-old Rita Downing, both of Scottsville, KY.



Burgess sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen while Downing sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm. Both victims were flown to Vanderbilt University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Post 15 received the call at 3:30pmCT, Sunday, December 29, 2013, from Monroe County dispatch. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred outside the residence and that Wyatt and Burgess had been involved in a physical altercation before the shooting occurred.Wyatt was lodged in the Monroe County Jail. No further details are being released at this time. Detective James Richard is investigating. - TFC Billy R. Gregory.
