Sound business practices have to come first at Westlake

What Craig Pyles and Richard Grant have told us is not what we want to hear but what we need to hear.

No business can spend more than it does not take in nor can it support a payroll bigger than it needs. Sounds harsh? South Central Printing, my own company has had problems since 2009 same as most other small companies and we have had to let 3 employees go and it's no easy thing to do.



If we could get the patient count up to a point that West Lake has the need for more employees then it could afford to hire more.

Sound business practices have got to come first. If West Lake could get more surgeons to come here one or two days a week to see patients and perform surgeries that could use the services of the well qualified nursing staff WRH has could help bring in badly needed cash. Using Nurse Practioners to work with the physicians we have here it could save money and keep the hospital busy.

An audit of all of the different parts of the hospital like what each person makes or how the cafeteria does. Look at all parts of the total operation to see where savings can be made. In 1982 SCP went more than broke when all of a sudden our business fell by 40%.

We looked and looked for ways to save money and for a while we could find nothing we could do without. The more we looked the more desperate we became, so we started cutting out little thing like a double line telephone and put 2 phones on each desk that saved us 30.00 per month , not much but multiply by 12 months and the savings was 360.00 for the year. This got all our employees looking and we actually cut our expenses by 38% from what I would swore was a tight budget.

We need a person running WRH who has a business background and has had the experience to handle the money problems and most important of all we need someone who cares with heart and soul, not a hired gun to come in and clean up this mess. We need openness to the public; we should not get our information from gossip but be told up front what is going on. There should be a board that has real figures to work with and in turn should be responsive to the people who stand good for what is spent at WRH.

Same goes for all taxing districts and local governments. We are not in good times in the USA now that goes with out saying. The good-o-boy type operations of times past just don't cut it now we all need to know what our government run services are doing at all times.

We all have lost a lot of trust now knowing how lax some who have served on our board of directors have taken their positions so lightly.

This kind if problem should not be able to happen again. Craig Pyles and Richard Grant should be commended for taking this unpopular stand to save WRH there will not be any easy way to save it now and a lot of people are going to be hurt bad.

The employees who took the way to high of salaries should share a lot of the blame, not Craig and Richard who had nothing to do with the down fall of WRH as well as the people who allowed these big pays checks to be made.

The people, who took the high salaries, can't be blamed for taking bigger pay checks but these people have more of a reason to save WRH than the rest of us who will be footing the bill regardless of how it comes out. I did not trust the sake of our hospital to a larger company because I was not have privy to what was being sold and who may have profited from this sale.

No, I do not trust anyone who is making a deal with my money with out showing me exactly what is happening. When I make a deal with my money it's just me, if you are spending my money I have a right to know every thing you are doing, it's just that simple! - Ralph Roy Waggener
