Snow Plan: Adair County Schools 2013-14 (CM Note: School closings will be posted here on ColumbiaMagazine.com, on FM 92.7 and FM 99.9 FM, will be announced through phone alert, First Call, and through other media accessed at the end of this story) By Superintendent Alan W. Reed Seems Mother Nature spared us last winter from her unpredictable fury. With another winter approaching, all of us in the central office at Adair County Schools are preparing in case ice and snow blankets our roadways. Our Transportation Director, David Jones, and I usually begin our mornings bright and early (usually 2am-3amCT) and attempt to make a go/no go decision by 4:45amCT. Sometimes it is an easy call but may times it is not. However, we always err on the side of caution relying on every possible resource out there since safety will always be number one in our district. Protocol for this winter: The Superintendent and Transportation Director will spot check rural, secondary and primary roads in Adair County. They will also rely on information provided by Kentucky State Police and the National Weather Service. In addition, information from neighboring districts may be taken into consideration. The decision to cancel school is solely the decision of the Superintendent and Transportation Director, who will be working together. In the event of Mr. Reed's absence, Mr. David Jones shall make the GO/NO GO decision. In certain situations, the Superintendent may decide to delegate weather related cancellations solely to the Transportation Director. Due to both safety and childcare decisions, it is important that weather related cancellations be made in a timely manner. Our intent is to make "GO/NO-GO" decisions by 4:45amCT, but please keep in mind that winter weather is often unpredictable and certain circumstances could delay the announcement. We will make announcements through the following sources: Columbiamagazine.com, Accvonline.com (Community Voice), WAIN AM-FM (93.5), WHVE, The Wave (92.7), WVLC, The Big Dawg (99.9), WBKO Television (Channel 13), One Call Now (automated calling) There could be times when the GO/NO GO decision will be made the evening prior to the cancellation(s) and will be announced utilizing the above named media resources. - Alan W. Reed, Superintendent This story was posted on 2013-11-14 08:29:41
