Local Veteran to be laid to rest on Veterans Day 'Show your support. . . marking the passing of one of Adair County's own local heroes this Monday, as we celebrate his life, his return to The Lord, and show his family what carrying out his answering the call of this great country of ours means to us,' - LEMIA Click on headline for complete article By Lemia Ramon-Laval We cannot think of a better and more significant way to commemorate Veteran's Day than to honor a local veteran who will be laid to rest this Veteran's Day at Pellyton Cemetery, 1pmCT. Local Veterans and Patriotic citizens of Adair County: We humbly ask that you come out and pay your last respects to Vietnam Veteran, Richard D. West, Adair County, KY (1949-2013) and thereby support his family during this difficult time after his sudden and unexpected passing by attending his funeral rites at the Pellyton Cemetery this Veteran's Day (Monday). Many spend this day with picnics and celebrations, but let us remember that the freedoms that we enjoy today come at a high cost to those who fought on our behalf for them. It is not only those who fought and never made it home from the battlefields that paid a heavy price, but let us not forget those that fought and returned home scarred for life by what they saw and endured. Their passing should not go unnoticed. The solemnity of this day seems to have turned into no more than an excuse for a picnic or a mere celebration of a day off from work (for those businesses that even bother to mark this day as a day of significance). Help to remind yourselves and teach your children at what price our freedom comes by marking the passing of one of Adair County's own local heroes this Monday, as we celebrate his life, his return to The Lord, and show his family what carrying out his answering the call of this great country of ours means to us. Our heartfelt condolences are bestowed upon the Ellis-West family at this time of great loss to them. - Lemia Ramon-Laval, Mustard Seed Country Store, Pellyton, KY This story was posted on 2013-11-10 09:39:10
