Great Outhouse Blowout in Gravel Switch, KY, Sept 14, 2013 Local crafts producers Sonny & Trilby Vance will be at this event with a special item, an replica of one of the necessary buildings of years gone by, and other crafts Special to ColumbiaMagazine.com Historic Penn's Store, 257 Penn's Store Road, Gravel Switch, KY, will host its 22nd annual "Great Outhouse Blowout" from 9am-5pmCT/10am-6pmET, Saturday, September 14, 2013 featuring its internationally recognized outhouse race, the Outhouse 300. Teams of 5 race (drag-strip style), double elimination, starting at high noon throughout the afternoon for cash prizes, and trophies - 1st, 2nd,3rd Place as well as the Humdinger Award for most creative and the Long Haul for team traveling longest distance to race, and possibly most important of allm dbragging rights. Play by play call for the day will be emcees Vicki DeLys Hyde, and David Neville, auctioneer. The day features, besides a free roll of toilet paper to each of the first 200 cars, a parade, music all day from country and folk, to Motown & Blues by Back Street Ban, to the Classic Rock & Roll sound by, Cheyenne, just Drive It & Show It ( car, truck, motorcycle show), Ugly Legs Contest (for men) and Outhouse Bachelor (for women), multi talented folks to , artisians, authors, and the 2013 Award winners: CMA (Crescent Moon Award) - Chet Atkins ( posthumously) for headlining the historic 1992 outhouse dedication concert at America's oldest country store. (Accepting will be international guitarist and Hall of Fame inductee, Pat Kirtley.) Moon & Stars Award - Bob Hill, long time Courier Journal columnist and bear wrestler, who covered the 1992 dedication. Golden Throne Award - Tracie Cigliano, Knoxville, Tennessee.
