Thinks 11.5% tax collected on insurance ought to be enough Comments re article 61786 Special Called Meeting Columbia City Council Sept 10 2013 (Note: This meeting is to vote on an increased ad valorem tax) By Rickie Williams Personal commentary As for the collection of yet another tax, is the approximately 11.5% mystery tax collected on all forms of insurance premiums for the residents of this city not enough? If you live in the city limits of Columbia, look at the tax on ANY insurance policy you have and find the one titled municipal tax. Various insurance companies collected over $1100 from me on Columbia\'s behalf during 2012. Compared to some, that may be extreme. Compared to others, pennies on the dollars they spent. Before another tax is collected, I feel that a completely transparent accounting of the distribution of the taxes collected on insurance premiums ought to be made known to the public. --Rickie Williams This story was posted on 2013-09-08 16:53:52
