Henry Moore, private and musician, served in Company K, 125 U.S. Colored Infantry, enlisted 25 May 1865 at Columbia, KY, mustered into service on 31 May 1865 at Louisville, KY. Physical description upon enlistment: age 18, born Adair County, 5 feet 3 inches, black complexion, black eyes, black hair, laborer/farmer, owner listed as James Moore, enlisted without consent. Service notes: on duty as drummer, June 1865; on detached duty at Santa Fe, NM, January 1867; discharged by re-enlisting in 10 U.S. Colored Cavalry, 21 January 1867 at Santa Fe, NM.



Henry Moore's top rank was Sergeant with Troop K, 9 U.S. Cavalry. He first enlisted as private, Company E, 10 Cavalry, 21 January 1867 at Santa Fe, NM, born Adair County, KY, age 21, laborer, black eyes, black hair, black complexion, 5 feet 3 inches, discharged 21 January 1872 at Fort Sill, Indian Territory upon expiration of service. He re-enlisted as private in 10 Cavalry on 16 April 1872 at Fort Sill, age 23, occupation soldier, 5 feet 8 inches, discharged 16 April 1877 at Fort Concho, Texas upon expiration of service; re-enlisted as private in 10 Cavalry on 15 May 1877 at Fort Concho, age 28, soldier, 5 feet 8 inches, discharged 14 May 1882 at Fort Concho upon expiration of service; re-enlisted in 9 Cavalry on 1 June 1882 at Fort Riley, KS, age 33, discharged as Sergeant on 31 May 1887 at Fort Robinson, Nebraska upon expiration of service; re-enlisted in Company K, 9 Cavalry on 1 June 1887 at Fort Robinson, age 43, soldier, discharged as Corporal 31 May 1892 at Fort Myer, VA upon expiration of service; re-enlisted Company K, 9 Cavalry on 1 June 1892 at Fort Myer for 5 years, age 48, his 6th enlistment; retired 16 March 1895 as Sergeant.

It is important to note that another man by the name of Henry Moore enlisted in the 125 U.S. Colored Infantry who was born in Adair County, but not the same person--Henry Moore, private, Company E, 125 U.S. Colored Infantry, enlisted 8 April 1865 at Lebanon, KY, mustered same date and place; description upon enlistment: age 34, born Adair County, 5 feet 4
