Bradley Jeffries identifies bird as Great Blue Heron

Our changing wildlife: Herons weren't around when she was growing up in Columbia, but remembers following a large crane in the 1950s

Ms Bradley Jeffries writes:
It''s a Great Blue Heron, beautiful, majestic and common where I live in SW FL. It's comfortable walking among human beach goers, especially surf fishermen, hoping for small-catch handouts. They often seem to pose for photographs.

Growing up in Columbia, I never saw one, but in late '50s followed a large crane during its stops at water holes off Old Greensburg Street (Pelham Branch Road, now -CM) Awesome. - Ms Bradley Jeffries

Birds of KY: Blue Heron or Blue Crane?

2013-06-04 - Egypt, KY - Photo by George Rice.
Here is one of my birds of Kentucky.
Help me name it. Is it a blue crane or a blue heron? There are always one or two on my farm ponds. They are shy birds who seldom let me get close enough to photograph them. Photo by George Rice, farm pond Knifley road. 2013/6/04 Identifications: Lori Bragg and Ms. Bradley Jeffries have both identified the Bird as a Great Blue Heron.
