Arsenic and the anemic chickens 'Guess if we eat enough chicken, we can eliminate embalming costs from our funerals.' - JOYCE M. COOMER By Joyce M Coomer Personal commentary Cancer worries aside, arsenic is a poison, although, according to what I've read (check Wikipedia) women used to take arsenic in small amounts to make their skin pale. I've been complaining for nearly 20 years about the "anemic" chickens in the grocery stores and haven't bought very many and when I found out about arsenic in chicken feed to "improve" the flesh color, I had an answer to why the chickens were "anemic". (I grew up on a farm and know exactly what a good, fat baking hen is supposed to look like.} The past eight or ten years I have been complaining about the inability of restaurants to serve chicken that is thoroughly cooked and when I found out about arsenic in chicken feed, that problem was addressed also since arsenic can also be used as a preservative. (I also had the non-cooking issue with two turkeys in the past couple of years even though I cooked them nearly two hours longer than the recommended cooking time.) Guess if we eat enough chicken, we can eliminate embalming costs from our funerals. -Joyce M Coomer Comments re article 58757 Link to story on health problems chicken feed This story was posted on 2013-04-08 15:46:37
