Poetry by Robert Stone: Talents differ, a sonnet

Talents differ - a sonnet for the birthday of Paul Richmond (March 22, 2013)
How come some painters often in their work
have unexpected revelations shown
while others only in routine can lurk
to bare the flesh as stick, the bone as stone.

How come some music makers marking beat
have raised the spirit, comforted the sad
while others simply monotone repeat
to bore one needing changes just a tad.

How come some poets finding words well used
have recognition for sly turn of phrase
while others settle, sound and sense confused,
to pour unsatisfying drink always.

Though talents differ with extremes in art,
what joy to know the ones who find the heart.

- Robert Stone, 22 March 2013
