Mr. Truman Howard Murphy, Burkesville, KY (1933-2012)

He was the patriarch of a large Cumberland Co., KY family and a highly regarded member of the Burkesville community. He was a member of The Highland Chapel United Methodist Church, an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict having attained the rank of Corporal, a member of V.F.W. post number 5419, a Master Plumber, and worked for the Cumberland County Water District

Mr. Truman Howard Murphy, age 79, of Burkesville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday December 17, 2012 at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, December 21, 2012 at 1pmCT/12pm noon ET, in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, 601 N. Main Street, Burkesville, KY, with Rev. R. Thomas Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Burkesville Cemetery with military honors conducted by The Monticello D.A.V. post number 105. Visitation will be after 2pmCT/3pmET, Thursday December 20, at Norris-New Funeral Home in Burkesville until the Funeral Hour on Friday.



Pallbearers will be Josh Murphy, Jordan Murphy, Corey Murphy, Anthony Gilbert, Corey Cash, Josh Cooksey and Corbit Murphy.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Johnny Carter, Glen Orton, Bobby Orton, Warren Carter, Darrell Moons, David Moons, Joe Myers, Joey Anderson, Greg Pruitt and Eddie Claywell.


Mr. Truman Howard Murphy, Burkesville, KY (1933-2012)


He was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Tuesday June 20, 1933 the son of Bill Snow and Maggie Dora Allen Murphy. He died Monday, December 17, 2012, in Burkesville, Cumberland County, KY, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 27 days.

He was a member of The Highland Chapel United Methodist Church, an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict having attained the rank of Corporal, a member of V.F.W. post number 5419, a Master Plumber, and worked for the Cumberland County Water District. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Billy Gene Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Thomas Murphy whom he wed January 24, 1953 in Albany, Kentucky, and the following:
  • His children: Truman Michael Murphy, Deborah Sue (and Mike) Irby, Clifford Joe Murphy and Daryl Gene (and Michelle) Murphy all of Burkesville, KY., his sisters, Doris Brown of Albany, KY, Brenda (and Benny) Smith of Burkesville, KY

  • His brother: Roger (and Marion) Murphy of Burkesville, KY

  • His grandchildren: Anthony Gilbert, Beth Cash, Corey Murphy, Josh Murphy, Kelsie Murphy, Jordan Murphy, Corbin Murphy and Katie Murphy, his Great-Grandchildren, Connor Cash, Landon Gilbert, Emma Gilbert and Evan Cash
