Interviews for School Board Member is December 19, 2012

Five candidates will be interviewed for position vacated by Rebecca Turner, who resigned after she moved from the district

By Ed Waggener

Interviews for the five applicants to fill the vacancy for Adair County School Board in Division 1 will take place at the Adair County Board of Education Central office at 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY, starting at 10amCT/11amET. The interviews are expected to take 30-45 minutes each.

The five to be interviewed are:
  • Wm. T. "Billy" Bloyd
  • Greg L. Willis
  • Marty J. Dykes
  • Lisa A. Handy
  • and Brian O. Turner
The interviews will be conducted by a team from the Kentucky Department of Education headed by John Thompson, who will be joined by two other school board members from other districts. The final selection will be made by Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday after he receives the interview reports.

Superintendent Alan W. Reed would not comment as to a preference, on the list except to say that from all the information he has, any one of the people on the list should make an excellent member.

The interviews will be closed, as they involve personnel matters, according to Superintendent Alan W. Reed, who said that the information just arrived, this afternoon, Tuesday, December 11, 2012.

Supt. Reed was asked when he expects the new board member to be appointed and said that he really doesn't know what to expect on the time frame. "That is entirely up to the state - that's entirely up to Commissioner Holliday."

The answer came following a request today from ColumbiaMagazine.com for the information. The details were withheld pending approval by Mr. Thompson to release the news
