LWC students demonstrate Rube Goldberg Machine Presentation made to over 100 students at Taylor Co. High School Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - A group of Lindsey Wilson College students recently demonstrated how to play the popular video game "Angry Birds" the hard way. The Lindsey Wilson Area Rube Goldberg Experience club showed off their latest invention Friday to more than 100 students at Taylor County High School. The five LWC students and Assistant Professor of Physics Mark McKinnon created a Rube Goldberg machine that executes one move of "Angry Birds" using their namesake's principles. The machine was created from a cornucopia of supplies, including soft drink bottles, pulleys, toys, string and various household items. Their machine takes about two minutes to propel a stuffed Angry Bird into a log-structure supporting a stuffed Pig. Rube Goldberg was an American cartoonist whose drawings showed complicated, whimsical devices to achieve a simple task. The LWC Area Rube Goldberg Experience includes students who create Rube Goldberg-inspired machines for fun and also for learning -- McKinnon is coordinator of LWC's engineering mechanics program, and several students plan to have careers in engineering-related professions. - Duane Bonifer This story was posted on 2012-11-19 20:49:02
