We Will Leave No Stone Unturned...

In their efforts to help make Adair County a better place to live the Adair County Garden Club members will leave no stone unturned - or picked up and moved.

The search for the perfect bench stone to complete the new Springhouse Herb Garden led us to the far reaches of the county. When no "city stone" could be found Jeanne Marshburn and Barbara Armitage decided to venture into the wilds of Fairplay to seek the elusive final stone.

Deep in the pit at Burton Stone these dedicated gardeners methodically searched through millions of pounds of rock to finally locate the perfect stone to complete the bench.

Community support is what makes Adair County a wonderful place. The new Springhouse Herb Garden is well on its way to completion and thanks to the generosity of Burton Stone there will be a quiet place to sit and enjoy the view.

We invite you to stop by the Trabue-Russell House at 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia and sit and watch the Springhouse Herb Garden grow.

The Garden Club meets at 1pmCT on the 4th Thursday of each month in a variety of locations. Each meeting is designed to expand your knowledge of gardening techniques, landscape ideas, environmental issues, natural resources, birds, wildlife and more. For more information contact Barbara Armitage at 270-250-2979.

Search for perfect stone slab finds success at Burton Stone

2012-11-05 - TRH, 201 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Barbara Armitage. There is no time to sit for Jeanne Marshburn, left and Wayne Armitage, right whose job it is to set the sitting stone. After one of the most intense stone slab searches in Adair County History, the stone was found at Burton Stone, Inc., Fairplay Road, Columbia, KY. With a little tinkering and adjusting, the slab will complete the addition of another bench at the Springhouse Herb Garden at the Trabue-Russell House.
