Victoria Pike: Petition signing going well Despite pending changes at the hospital with Spectrum leaving September 14, 2012, two new board members, and Chairman Jim Evans having only two more months to serve, Committee to Recall the Hospital Tax has been continuing to add signers to their petition. In this article, Vickie Pike tells what is on signers minds: Secrecy, "confidentiality" about critical information, lack of information about investigations, top salaries they think are (or were) out-of-line, and inequities in pay - they want low end salaries untouched by cuts - and other concerns. But she adds, "We too will be praying tomorrow, as we do everyday, for the hardworking, underpaid hospital employees and also for community as a whole," - CM By Victoria Pike News and personal commentary from Committee to Recall the Hospital Tax The last two days have been a true example of democracy at work. People have poured into our little tent on the corner to tell us they are mad as you know what and want to see justice. We listened as each told their stories of how this tax would effect them and how helpless they feel in trying to get it stopped. They want straight answers as to where all their hard-earned money went before another dollar of taxpayer money is sunk into the hospital. They are sick and tired of being told everything is confidential. In their own words "if we are paying for it we should have the right to know where and how it has been spent." They want to know if there is an investigation by any local, state, or federal agencies. No definite answers here. They are also concerned about the hard working hospital employees in the lower paying jobs who will be hit the most by this situation. None of us want to harm these employees in any way. The cuts need to be at the top of the pay scale, not the bottom. Ten to 15 percent off of someone making $100,000 isn't going to hurt them near as bad as someone making $10,000 and barely making ends meet as it is. From some reports we have found from 2000, 2001, 2002, at Tax-faqs - about Adair County Hospital District, there were five people making over $150,000 and 33 making over $50,000. One was making over $300,000. These are the figures reported on this website which list tax exempt organizations all over the USA. and their filings. Names are not listed but figures are. We too will be praying tomorrow, as we do everyday, for the hardworking, underpaid hospital employees and also for community as a whole. Sincerely, Committee to Rrecall the Hospital Tax --Victoria Pike This story was posted on 2012-08-19 02:37:00
