COLUMBIA, KY - The Lindsey Wilson College community will celebrate academic excellence and the school's founders on Thursday, April 26, and Friday, April 27, 2012.

Student achievement will be recognized at the college's annual honors convocation, the college's founders will be celebrated at the LWC Founders' Day Dinner, and student academic work and research will be showcased on Academic Celebration Day.

"This two-day celebration is a reminder of what Lindsey Wilson College is all about -- academic excellence and achievement," said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr. "Our faculty and students are at the heart of what we do, and these two days will showcase the students and faculty who make Lindsey Wilson an outstanding college."

At honors convocation -- which will be be held at 4pmCT on Thursday, April 26, in Biggers Sports Center, (360 Spickard Drive) -- academic awards will be presented to students based on their work during the 2011-12 school year and also throughout their LWC academic careers.

Also at the ceremony, Luckey will present the President's Award to the member of the Class of 2012 who he feels epitomizes the LWC spirit, and the LWC Student Government Association will name the outstanding LWC teacher of the year.

Later that evening, Sgt. Dakota Meyer of Columbia will deliver the Founders' Day Dinner keynote address. The dinner gets under way at 6pmCT in the Roberta D. Cranmer Dining & Conference Center (430 Helen Flatt Drive).

Meyer, who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama last September, will speak about the urgency of seizing opportunities in life and making the most of them.

"Sgt. Meyer has been an inspiration for so many Americans, and it is an honor to have him deliver the keynote address of Lindsey Wilson's annual Founders' Day Dinner," Luckey said.

On Friday, April 27, 2012, work by LWC undergraduates will be on display at the annual Academic Celebration Day. Work will include research projects students have conducted both independently and with LWC professors during the 2011-12 school year, and the Lindsey Wilson Singers will conclude the day with a performance.

The central location for Academic Celebration Day - which will be held from 9:30am-2:30pmCT - will be the Norma and Glen Hodge Center for Discipleship (402 Helen Flatt Drive) .

"Lindsey Wilson students are doing some incredible things in classrooms and in laboratories, and Academic Celebration Day is a great opportunity to see some of their very best work," Luckey said.
