LW Volleyball earns Quick 3-0 win against West Virginia Tech Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Dan White COLUMBIA, KY - Ashlie Haworth tallied a team-high eight kills and Alyssa Cuthbert finished with 19 assists and three blocks to help the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team take care of the West Virginia Institute of Technology 3-0 (25-5, 25-13, 25-11) at Biggers Sports Center on Sunday night. Haworth also finished with four digs and two service aces, while freshmen Taylor Hayne and Kirsten King connected for six kills each. Sophomore Emily Meeks chipped in with four kills and five blocks and her classmate Haley Barnes had three kills to help Lindsey Wilson win its 12th straight match. Senior Rachael Anderson paced the defense for Lindsey Wilson (19-1) with 17 digs, while Cuthbert contributed her three blocks and junior setter Andrea Taylor sent back two blocks and handed out nine assists. It was a good night for the Blue Raiders as all 14 players saw the court and took apart the visiting Golden Bears. In the 25-5 first-set win, four of West Virginia Tech's points were gained by Lindsey Wilson's own errors. It's hard not to do well when hitting at such high percentages, for the match the Blue Raiders hit .351, including a match-high .440 performance in the first set. For West Virginia Tech (2-15), its woes lasted throughout the night, tallying a negative hitting percentage for the match (-.132) with negative marks in all three sets. Jessica Shelter led the Golden Bears with three kills and Kaylah Bovard paced the defense with 13 digs, while Jaymee Hannan finished with seven assists. -DAN WHITE This story was posted on 2011-10-03 04:42:30
