ADAIR COUNTY, KY SCHOOLS (2011-09-17) -Sounds of applause reverberated throughout the hallways at John Adair Intermediate School as the Medal of Honor was placed around the neck of former John Adair student Dakota Meyer.

Principal Jane Branham proudly shared old yearbook photos of Dakota from his fifth, sixth, and seventh grade schools years at John Adair. According to Branham, Dakota was "just a great kid" who left a string of positive lasting impressions on his teachers and fellow students during his three years as at John Adair student. "When Dakota was here in 1999 through 2001, John Adair was a middle school", said Branham.

Dakota's fifth-grade reading teacher, Angie Smith, recalled the time when Dakota's father, Mike Meyer, brought a cow to school for a 4-H demonstration. "Dakota showed the other 4-H students how to properly groom a cow to get ready for show," said Smith. "I don't ever remember any other student ever bringing a cow to school" -Alan W. Reed
