LWC Volleyball Wins at Georgetown 3-1, Ends 11-Match Series Skid GEORGETOWN, KY- For the first time since the 2006 season, the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team left Georgetown (Ky.) College with a win. Using 14 kills each from freshmen Kirsten King and Taylor Hayne, the Blue Raiders put away the Tigers 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 25-22, 25-23) on Thursday at David-Reid Alumni Gym, ending an 11-match losing streak to Georgetown (7-7, 2-1 MSC West). The match wasn't always pretty, as illustrated by hitting percentages below .200 for each team, but Lindsey Wilson (13-1, 2-1 MSC West) committed fewer errors and served well to keep the Tigers off balance most of the match. Lindsey Wilson shot out of the gate with a 25-20 win in the opening set, but found itself in trouble early in the second, trailing 6-0 to open the set. Georgetown used that early run to its advantage the rest of the way to capture the blowout second-set win. Refocused, the Blue Raiders fought through the final two sets, pulling out a pair of tough wins to take over first place in the Mid-South Conference West Division. Making the path to a win easier was the multitude of late errors by the Tigers. After hitting .415 with just one error in their second-set win, the Tigers fell apart offensive in the final two sets, hitting .167 and .135, respectively with a combined 15 errors in the final two sets. For the match, Lindsey Wilson led the way with a .197 hitting percentage, led by senior Kayla Koerber with a .412 mark for eight kills in 17 attempts. Georgetown finished hitting .185 and was led on the attack by Rachel Eubanks with a match-high 15 kills. Lindsey Wilson junior setter Andre Taylor dished out 47 assists and senior Rachael Anderson finished with 22 digs to lead the defense. Freshman Sierra Wilkerson matched Koerber for the Blue Raiders with eight kills. Other Blue Raiders who got in on the defensive act were King with 13 digs and Hayne and freshman Sarah Anderson with 10. King finished with three service aces, while sophomore Audra McNabney and Anderson each added one. Hayne led the Blue Raiders in blocks with two and King and Koerber each added a block. Lindsey Wilson returns to action on September 20 at Asbury (Ky.) College in Wilmore, Ky. This story was posted on 2011-09-16 09:51:58
