Ortella Pickett, Adair Co., KY native (1923-2011)

She was a member of a highly regarded family, with deep roots in Adair and Green Counties of Kentucky. She was a member of Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church and attended Fry Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Enro Shirt Company in Louisville, KY, and of American Needlecraft, Greensburg, KY, and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Ortella Pickett, the daughter of Judge Garnett and Essie Shuffett Rodgers, was born Sunday, October 14, 1923 in Adair County and departed this life on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Greensburg at the Golden Living-Green Hill Nursing Home. She was 87 years of age.

The funeral service for Mrs. Ortella Pickett will be conducted Monday, August 29, 2011 at 11amCT, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Orr Cemetery in Green County. Bro. Larry Wisdom will be officiating.

Mrs. Ortella Pickett was the daughter of Judge Garnett and Essie Shuffett Rodgers. She was born Sunday, October 14, 1923 in Adair County and departed this life on Friday, August 26, 2011 in Greensburg, Green Co., KY, at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 12 days.

Pallbearers: Joshua Pickett, Dwayne Pickett, Jamie Shuffett, Mitch Looney, Shawn Murray, Jerry Rodgers.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pickett's Chapel United Methodist and attended the Fry Baptist Church and was a former employee of Enro Shirt Company in Louisville, American Needlecraft Greensburg and was a homemaker.

She united in marriage on October 14, 1940 to Lester Pickett, who preceded her in death on March 25, 2006.

Survivors include the following:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Charles and Joyce Pickett of Greensburg, KY

  • Two grandchildren: Josh Pickett of Mt. Washington and Ashley Sparks of Louisville, KY

  • Two brothers; Kenneth Rodgers and Jr. Rodgers both of Campbellsville, KY

  • Two sisters: Sara Murray of Greensburg, KY, and Imogene Looney of Elizabethtown, KY;

  • Five great-grandchildren: Colton, Brayden and Grayson Sparks, Emma and Mason Pickett

  • And a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Pickett was preceded in death by a sister and brother: Audrey Masterson and Randall Rodgers.

The Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main ST, Greensburg, KY in charge of arrangements.
