Epicurean Kentuckian: Good eats from Adair Co. Gardens

About: Myra Harrison report: Bumper Harvest at Friday, July 16, 2010 Adair County Farmers Market:

By M.E. Lewis

The Farmers market was busy Friday morning at 6:15am. I spent less than $15.00 dollars and bought:
  • 6 med to large tomatoes
  • A bag of small potatoes
  • Two (2) pints of blackberries
  • Three (3) eggplants
  • A large head of cabbage and
  • A very good loaf of whole wheat bread

At 8:57amCT the blackberry cobbler was removed from the oven and waiting to feed my guests when they came for lunch.

The green beans that I am cooking also came from the local farmers market, a week earlier, and had been placed in the freezer.

They will went well with the veggies I bought Friday morning.

It was a great lunch. -M.E. Lewis

M.E. Lewis, the writer, is a strong advocate of eating local and buying from local growers. She is in the vanguard of a growing trend in Adair County, as more people are raising gardens, buying at the Farmers Market, at patches on the farm, at roadside vendors, in local markets, and, more and more, as part of meals in local restaurants. CM thanks M.E. Lewis and all those who are discovering that the very best ethnic food just might be local. If you have comments on Eating Local, or photos, descriptions of meals, or recipes, please submit using any Contact/Submitbutton. -CM
