Poetry by Robert Stone: Being close enough

Being Close Enough
- a sonnet inspired by Carol Perkins: Missing Mother
Far ranging distance cannot separate
the ones whose lives and loves are intertwined
by action, word, desire, and playful trait
that instantly a secret brings to mind.

Nearby the easy interactions lie
and taking care can slip into control
where much concern becomes a clinging tie
that constantly forgets its proper role.

Connections tend to seal the inner part
from us to others and then back to us
so unseen silent yearnings of the heart
sometimes erupt as nightmares to discuss.

The touch itself I do not daily plead
but being close enough to touch I need.

- Robert Stone, 13 June 2010
