This note of praise from afar for Gradyville appeared in the October 4, 1944 Adair County News.
Visits Rome
Pfc. Noel Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Z.A. Hayes, of Gradyville, has been overseas 18 months and is now in Italy. He writes that he has visited Rome several times and that it is a pretty city, but not as pretty as Gradyville...

Noel Hayes was the father of one son, the Dean of Adair County Journalists Paul B. Hayes, editor of the Adair Progress, and of two daughters, Susan Loy, President of Barger Insurance Agency, Columbia, KY, and Cathy Morris of Louisville, KY. -CM
