LWC Men's Basketball wins opener 80-58 over Roberts Wesleyan Eric McPherson has 22 points, 20 in second half. Adair County basketball hero Darren Ballou has strong second half, scoring six points and two rebounds. LWC Men play University of Michigan/Dearborn tonight at Biggers Sports Center. By Dan White, LWC Asst. Sports Information Director COLUMBIA, KY - Senior guard Eric McPherson exploded for 20 second-half points on his way to 22 for the game as Lindsey Wilson College opened its season with an 80-58 win over Roberts Wesleyan (NY) College on Friday at Biggers Sports Center in the LWC Homecoming Classic. Junior forward Stefan Juzbasic knocked down two three-point baskets in the first five minutes of the game to force the Raiders to call an early timeout and help Lindsey Wilson build an 11-5 lead. The Blue Raiders used a combination of a full-court press defense and hot shooting from behind the arc to push its lead to 16-5 after freshman Ryan Young drilled a three pointer with 13:45 to play in the half. Senior Tim Parker followed with another three just over a minute later to give Lindsey Wilson a 12-point lead (19-7). Senior Ismar Neto showed his shooting range with a pair of fancy head fakes to free himself up for a pair of baskets that pushed the Blue Raider lead to 14. Roberts Wesleyan responded by switching to a 2-3 zone defense to try to shore up the LWC penetration. As well as the defensive switch, the Raiders started to feed the post, resulting in a spree of easy baskets allowing Roberts Wesleyan to climb back within six of Lindsey Wilson (26-20) with five minutes to play in the half. Juzbasic ignites with behind the back pass Juzbasic ignited the Blue Raiders for one final run with a nifty behind the back pass to junior Kemo Duncan that started a 9-5 LWC rally. At the end of the first half Lindsey Wilson led 38-25. Juzbasic paced the Blue Raiders in the first half with 10 points, while Ismar Neto added seven. Lindsey Wilson shot 48.3 percent from the field in the half, while Roberts Wesleyan hit just a 33.3 percent clip in the half. The Raiders shot just 1-for-8 on three-point attempts, while LWC shot 41.7 percent from behind the arc on 5-of-12 shooting. The second half belonged to McPherson and freshman Darren Ballou, as they each caught fire in the second portion of the contest. McPherson was hampered in the first half with two early fouls but was able to drain 3-of-5 shots from behind the arc to propel his scoring in the second half. Darren Ballou makes debut as Blue Raider Playing in his first collegiate basketball game, Ballou lost some of his first-half nerves to finish with a solid six points and two rebounds. Juzbasic joined McPherson in double figures for Lindsey Wilson with 11 points, while 11 Blue Raiders made their way into the scoring column. The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from behind the arc. Roberts Wesleyan shot just 33.3 percent from the field for the game and 12.5 percent from three-point range. Lindsey Wilson led the round battle as well, 42-34.
