LWC Women’s Soccer advances in MSC Tournament

Tops Rio Grande 11-0. Carrie Revlett has 13th shutout of season. Junior forward Katy Gilmour puts together first hat-trick of season. Yolanda Hamilton and Rebecca Bjorkvall have two goals each, with four other players on the nationally No. 1 Blue Raiders adding one goal each in impressive first round victory.

COLUMBIA, KY - Junior forward Katy Gilmour put together her first hat-trick performance of the season in top ranked Lindsey Wilson College’s 11-0 win against University of Rio Grande (OH) in the first round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament this afternoon, Friday, November 6, 2009, at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.


Blue Raider senior forward Yolanda Hamilton and freshman forward Rebecca Bjorkvall each contributed two goals, while senior goalkeeper Carrie Revlett recorded her 13th shutout of the season.

Seven players scored goals for Lindsey Wilson.

Bjorkvall struck first for the Blue Raiders in the seventh minute with an unassisted goal rocketed past the keeper from the center of the box.

Hamilton completed her two-goal performance in just two minutes. The senior scored first in the 17th minute unassisted, then took a pass from sophomore midfielder Ida Gregersen for another goal in the 18th minute.

With the first half winding down, Bjorkvall finished her scoring for the day with a goal in the 40th minute to put Lindsey Wilson in front 6-0. Sophomore midfielder Diana Da Rocha dished out the assist to Bjorkvall.

Also scoring for the Blue Raiders was senior midfielder Lorna Heaton in the 18th minute, freshman midfielder Saeda Sueki in the 39th minute, Da Rocha in the 47th minute and Gregersen in the 58th minute.

Gregersen finished the game with three assists, while Da Rocha was credited with two.

The Blue Raiders outshot Rio Grande 19-0, while 15 of the shots were on goal. Lindsey Wilson held the advantage in corner kicks as well, 9-1.

Lindsey Wilson plays West Virginia Tech in the semifinals of the MSC Tournament on November 12 in Lexington, KY. West Virginia Tech beat Campbellsville (KY) University 2-1 in double overtime to advance to the semifinals.
