Lightning strikes itself in second game in South Bend Errors lead to 15 unearned runs for Ohio today and gives Buckeye team win over Adair County, but Lightning can still reach Final Four with win tomorrow over Indiana, and a win on Thursday, Cnetral Region Finals By Gerald Reliford After a win on Sunday in the Central Regional Softball Tournament in South Bend, the ABC Lightning did a self-destruct number on themselves. ABC committed over a dozen errors that led to 15 unearned runs for Ohio, their Monday opponent. Adair outhit Ohio 9 to 6 and scored 4 earned runs. Ohio only scored 1 earned run in the game. Without the errors ABC Lightning wins 4-1. With the errors the final score was Ohio 16 ABC 5. Ohio scored 2 runs in the first on one hit and two Adair errors. Adair answered with 1 run in the first when Channley Otterson reached on an error, Haily McBeath doubled and MacKenzie Martin hit a sacrifice fly. Neither team scored in the second. Ohio went down in order and ABC had only a lead off single by Michelle Wray. Ohio went down in order again in the third. Otterson singled with one out, McBeath reach on an error and Martin singled in Otterson for one more ABC run to tie the game at 2-2. In the top of the fourth Ohio scored 6 times on two singles, a walk, and five Adair errors. Adair got 3 of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth on four consecutive singles by Meredith Corbin, Kayla Walls, Brooke Boils, and Otterson(her 2nd), McBeath reached on an error to load the bases. Martin walked to force in the 3rd run of the inning. Ohio scored 4 more times in the 5th inning on a walk, a single, and four more Adair errors. Adair had no hits in the 5th and failed to score. Ohio scored 4 more times in the top of the 6th on 2 singles, a double, and two more ABC errors. This made the final score 16-5 as Adair failed to score in the bottom of the 6th. Coaches and those at the game are at a loss as to explain why the team fielded so badly. Defense has been one of the main strengths of the team. Of the 9 Lightning hits Channley Otterson had three and six other players had one hit each. Otterson played the game injured due to getting her left thumb jammed during warmups. Adair can still reach the final four on Thursday with a win over Indiana on Tuesday. If they can reduce the errors they are a match for the Indiana team. They still have a chance to win the region.
