The Hamlett family reunion was held Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the home of Jimmy and Patricia Harper in the Jones-Wright Addition to the City of Columbia.

Some 50 family members were present, enjoying great food, though there was disagreement as to what was best. Some said it was Uncle Ricky Hamlett's white cake, made from scratch. Some said it was Aunt Norma Jean's Mississippi Mud Cake. Miss Caroline Hardwick, who has the last say, generally, said it was the fried chicken, her favorite food.

One of the highlights of the homecoming was the showing of a quilt created by Norma Hamlett Parnell, which depicts Adair County in 23 quilt panels.

It took over three months to create. Everyone wanted to know how much she would sell it for, but she wouldn't put a price on it.

I'd love to have one myself, as I think any Adair Countian would. I've already started finagling to get a similar one quilted for an Adair County Band Fundraiser.

The youngest future President who made a sensational debut at the 2009 Hamlett family reunion, was Mr. Griffen Hardwick, the son of Timmy and Jennifer Hardwick of Columbia, KY. The future big league baseball player, upper right, is Cody Hourigan; beside him is another Hamlett family beauty, Carley Hourigan; and, in the lower right, established political leader and reigning Little Miss Russell County, Caroline Hardwick, who said the fried chicken was the best food of all.
