Scenic Adair Co. KY: Buttercups on Snake Creek Road

2008-05-03 - Photo By Linda Waggener.

Someone knows how to raise Buttercups in Adair County as shown here in a field filled with them. They were blowing in the Derby Day breezes on Snake Creek Road between the communities of Vester and Egypt/Absher/Holmet. Somewhere in there. Mama says the true, old fashioned buttercup is white petals with a buttery yellow center. - LINDA WAGGENER

Scenic Adair Co., KY: A great place ahead

2008-05-03 - Jamestown Hill, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
MEMORABLE OLD COLUMBIA must be a great place, everybody in the world it trying to get there. Or so it appeared during a rainy morning this week. Summer rains have made Adair County greener than Ireland, making the town prettier than ever, especially at this point on Jamestown Hill, where new visitors to Columbia have said thousands of times, "That's the prettiest public building I've ever seen," when they first catch a glimpse of the clocktower.

Above, as it appeared in the evening sun on Derby Day, May 3, 2008, from the access ramp from Burkesville Road at mile marker 47 on the Louie B. Nunn Parkway.

Scenic Kentucky: After the storms, Devil's Hollow, KY

2008-05-04 - Franklin Co., KY - Photo By Pen.
Storms preceded the Derby Day Breakfast in Frankfort, but the Kentucky skies were gorgeous in this scene on Devil's Hollow Road in Franklin County. A blown-out umbrella accents the already bright colors, as well as reminding of the rapidly changing Kentucky weather.

Jobs with a view: A dispatcher's view

2008-05-04 - Adair County 911 Dispatch Center, N. High Street, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
Adair County 9-1-1 dispatchers will move from dungeon like quarters in the Adair County Regional Jail to second floor space with one of the best views in Columbia. Railing and special non-skid floor covers are installed on the 256 s.f balcony, built to a much more solid, vibration free standard than the treated lumber porch called in the specifications. "They shouldn't have any trouble getting applicants who want to work here," Mi Di Construction Co. President Mike Newton said. "I'd love to work for space like this, any day."
